Considered one of the most adventurous creekers in his day, Tim made hundreds of runs on the Blackwater and the North Fork of the Blackwater, as well as the other headwaters of the Cheat River. In 1993 he ran the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Yellowstone, solo, even took some pictures along the way.
Each year, Tim's fellow paddlers hold the Tim Gavin Downriver Race and Harpers Ferry Outdoor Festival in his honor. For over 10 years the event has raised money for Friends of the Blackwater, Cheat, Shenandoah, and WVRC.
